Today I want to challenge each and everyone of you with my blog. I want to challenge you to be brutally honest with yourself and ask yourself just one question “Are you in Denial?”. I will bet that the majority of you will emphatically answer NO. I’m not in denial, I fully accept what has gone on in my life, what is going on in my life and why it has all happened, I have no regrets… But I will say to you right now that you ARE in denial, you just don’t know it yet. First let’s understand what denial is.

Webster’s Dictionary defines Denial as:

Refusal to admit the truth or reality (as of a statement or charge) (2) : assertion that an allegation is false. Continue reading »

If you have been following my blogs lately, you know that I seem to be on a two date maxium  I Think I’m Going To Be Single For Awhile… My daughter Michaela, even went so far as to tell me I have commitment issues My Daughter Say’s That I have Commitment Issues, I Say I Have Time Management Issues

Well that all of that changed last Saturday night. I decided to ask a very special person out to dinner. We have had dinner before, but I wanted to make sure that this time she knew how special she was. I also wanted to make sure that my invitation was done  the right way. Knowing that she is a fan of the reality show “The Bachelor” I bought her one red rose, printed a very nice invitation and presented them to her. She read the invite, accepted the rose and accepted my invitation. I couldn’t believe that she said yes with all of the other commitments she has. Knowing that she loves Italian food, I made sure we got reservations at one of the nicest Italian restaurants in Denver.

Before I tell you about my night, let me tell you more about my date. She is a beautiful person both inside and out. She loves sports like I do, is positive and enegetic, and best of all carries herself with style and dignity. I have known her for what seems like forever and have actually had dinner with her before. I was always impressed with how she would carry on a conversation, as well as  how polite and respectful she was. Continue reading »

For my recent Parents Express article which is online now in the February issue, I touched base with doctors and book authors who give busy parents advice on a healthy lifestyle at different ages: toddlers, tweens, and teens. Recently I read a joke that said something along the lines of when you become a parent you should just have your paycheck directly deposited at the grocery store. Ha! That feels so true as my boys approach teen-dom. It seems I spend a lot and go to multiple stores to get the good foods we like.

For the article, Dr. Miriam Vos, MD, MSPH, a pediatric gastroenterologist at Emory University School of Medicine and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and author of The No-Diet Obesity Solution for Kids, notes: Eating well and keeping the family active can be challenging.  However, parents and children can learn to make smart food choices and use teamwork to eat better and stay more active.

Some tips from Dr. Vos: Continue reading »

I have posted this blog once before but believe that it it is worth repeating. I hope that it brings a smile to your face and starts your weekend off on the right foot. Much of my life has centered around food.

My mom is a great cook, and I still crave her salmon croquettes, minestrone soup, and her famed pork spareribs with sauerkraut.  That’s right, nothing fancy.  Just pure comfort and home-cooked goodness.

I’m most thankful for how my mom made dinner mandatory family time.  Even when she was a single-mom of three, we shared the day’s events over the evening meal.  When she re-married, and two more siblings came along, dinner was a time to come together and BE a family.  We told stories and laughed.  We celebrated victorious soccer games or perfect trumpet recitals.  And, like most kids, we got into trouble for laughing during grace or launching the world’s biggest food fight.

It was real life, it was family, and it showed me how food brings people together in meaningful ways. Continue reading »

“Do you think I’m fat?”.

Has your child ever asked you this question?

If so, did you feel prepared to answer?

Many parents don’t feel prepared.  It’s a tough topic, and often times we’re not sure how to address it.

I got very clear to this last night when it came up in my own family. Continue reading »
