I want to share a quote with you. I cannot remember where I got it so if someone wants to claim it…feel free.
“Integrity – it takes openness to achieve authenticity – to be able to say to yourself and to the world, ‘LIKE IT OR NOT, THIS IS WHO I AM!’ and then live that truth. Once we accept our humanity, integrity is not difficult at all.”
That totally speaks to me…doesn’t it you?
I remember when I wasn’t afraid to be who I am. I remember being described as being brutally honest, kind, someone who doesn’t put up with any BS, will always tell you the truth, what you see is what you get. I was described as someone who got things done. I was impeccable to my word.
That was me.
That’s not me anymore.
Where did I go?
I fell into fear. I fell into a place that told me…If you are you…you won’t make your clients happy and therefore you won’t make money and be able to pay the bills…blah…blah…blah!
I think I am wrong.
Okay, I know I am wrong!
Have you forgot who you are to save friendships, make money, to keep a relationship, etc.?
Chances are you have but when we are not ourselves we only cheat ourselves and the people in our lives because we never get to really live and they never get to really know us whether they like us or not.
Being who we REALLY are is where success is. IT IS WHERE LIFE IS!
I want to tell you about Bowe.
Bowe and I were together for five years. He had been married for nine years then he was with me. Bowe struggled and was never ‘content.’ Bowe was doing what he thought was the right thing to do. He had a job, a house, a wife, then he had me who had kids.
Bowe was living a life that did not belong to him. He was living society’s idea for Bowe.
Bowe and I broke up and he moved to a studio apartment in the city.
We didn’t talk for 3 years. When we did connect again, I was quite impressed. I was impressed that Bowe finally had the courage to be exactly who he is.
Bowe is passionate about everything! It’s quite annoying at times.
Bowe travels and hangs out with some unsavory people.
Bowe works, he works on his business, and he is a bit obsessed with his body.
Bowe goes through an array of women. Long relationships isn’t his thing.
He has the dumbest facebook posts.
But…who cares what I think. I hope Bowe doesn’t. I know Bowe doesn’t.
He is living his life and guess what…
I admire the crap out of him!
Bowe is more successful than he has ever been. He has more money in the bank, he looks great, he has more friends, and he wakes up everyday ready to live his life and people respect him.
Bowe can teach us all a lot. He certainly has taught me a lot.
Just be who you are. Then the world knows how to deal with you and your life will happen as it should.
It’s time to take my own advice.
So…here I am world…THIS ME ME…LIKE IT OR NOT…THIS IS ME!
