I have a friend of mine who is an amazing single mother. She is always present for her children, but like so many of us single parents, not sure if she is getting through to her kids. Earlier this week she shared with me a “Creed” that her daughter wrote in school. What makes this letter so amazing is that over the years this beautiful young lady has been through allot. She has experienced the death of a sister, the divorce of her parents and a move to a new home. For all of us that worry about how our kids deal with life changing experiences, never forget that kids are very resilient, especially when we as parents are there for them.

 My Creed

I believe in sunsets and watching the stars

I believe in beaches and toes in the sand

I believe in lakes and oceans and letting life take its course

I believe in lullabies and first day of school song

I believe that cancer sucks and one person can change the world

I believe in country music and that it can tell your life story

I believe that ice cream and running is cheap therapy

I believe that God has a plan for each of us

I believe that the bumps in the road are what make us stronger

I believe in family and friends getting you through the toughest days

I believe in laughter at funerals and tears at weddings

I believe in doing one thing a day that scares you

I believe in pushing yourself to the best you can be

I believe in karma, yoga and deep breathing

I believe that one smile can make a person’s life

I believe that music can change your mood in a matter of minutes

I believe that hugs are the best form of showing someone you care

I believe that crying is a way of showing strength

I believe that adults need to have more of an imagination

I believe that true happiness is achievable but you have to try

I believe that laughing will make you live longer

And that inside jokes are better when you’re not on the outside

I believe that life is better when you call it an adventure

I believe in letting go and being free

I believe in breaking rules and making your own

I believe in sneaking out and enjoying the thrill

I believe that a home is where the heart is

I believe in flossing and brushing twice a day

I believe that drinking water does make you feel better

I believe that birds and mice can sing and make a dress for an enchanted evening

I believe that Disney Channel makes you happy, even when you’re 60

And I believe you can never have too much of a good thing
