Tammy and Samantha Taylor and Eric
Taylor and Samantha at their parent’s wedding.
I met Samantha when she and Henley were in middle school. The first story Henley told me about Samantha was how she lost her mom, Tammy in a plane crash when she had just started third grade. She has a little brother Trey and a great dad John. John, a man who tragically lost his wife was now left to be a single father. For quite a few years John raised these great kids on his own. Samantha and Trey are just awesome. I loved Samantha from the moment I met her and have been amazed by her strength and openness.
And John…one funny fella and someone to be admired.
I met Taylor not too long after I met Samantha. Taylor and Eliot are friends. She is sweet and is quite the funny gal. I became friends with Taylor’s mom and dad, Heather and Eric. Life was going on as planned when Eric was killed in a care accident. Heather had lost her husband and the father of 3 very young children. Tragic. My heart went out to Taylor, Dylan, and Mason who handled the loss of their father with more strength than you could expect from an 11 year old girl and two young boys.
And Heather…one strong cookie and very cool.
Once upon a time Samantha and Taylor lived in the same neighborhood and their moms became best friends. When Tammy died, the friendship fizzled and they lost touch until Eric died. John reached out and Heather took his hand and let him help her through what he had already endured.
Can you guess what happened?
Yes, they are now married and they have given their children what they once lost…a mom and a dad. And they have given themselves what they had lost…LOVE and a spouse.
I think of this story often when I see Sam and Taylor with my girls. They are 17 and 15 now. They are like daughters to me. They are strong girls who did not let what they lost change the goodness in them. They are good friends to my girls, good students, cheerleaders, have tons of friends but most importantly the are SISTERS!
Amazing how life works!
Until next week.
